Cushion

(Of habit) plants many and close together, forming a dense rounded mass;

(Of flowers) swollen axis on which several flowers are borne.

In anatomy, a mass of connective tissue, usually adipose, that acts to prevent undue pressure on underlying tissues or structures.

A bursa, as well as other similar structures, can be described as a soft body component that resembles a pad or cushion. These structures are found in various parts of the body and serve to reduce friction and provide cushioning between tissues, such as between bones, tendons, and muscles. Bursae, in particular, are fluid-filled sacs that act as shock absorbers and facilitate smooth movement in joints. These pad-like structures play a crucial role in maintaining proper functioning and minimizing the risk of injury in the body’s anatomical systems.
