An abnormal growth that is firm, fibrous, and rubbery. Desmoids most often occur in the abdominal wall, but may also develop in the head, neck, arm, or legs. In the abdomen, these tumors are most common in women who have had children. Growths may also develop at the site of old surgical incisions. Most desmoid tumors are local problems and do not spread or grow. Desmoid tumors usually require surgical removal. Sometimes, chemotherapy is an effective treatment.
A slowly developing, firm fibroma that appears either individually or in small clusters on the bodies of both men and women. Originating from fascia or tendon, it is often found in the muscle sheath of the abdominal wall and is most common in women who have had multiple pregnancies.
