Clomiphene citrate

A fertility drug. Clomiphene citrate (Clomid, Serophene) is used to treat women who have ovulation problems and want to become pregnant. Clomiphene citrate induces ovulation by stimulating the production of certain hormones related to pregnancy. The drug is associated with multiple ovulations and increased probability of multiple births.

A drug used as part of infertility treatment to stimulate the release of hormones needed to initiate ovulation. Typically it is taken for five consecutive days early in the menstrual cycle for three to six monthly cycles. It can take several cycles to find the right dose. Once the dose is determined, a woman will take the drug for at least three more cycles unless she is successful in getting pregnant. If pregnancy does not occur after six cycles, it usually means clomiphene treatment will not be successful.
