Psoas muscle

Muscle of the internal aspect of the hip that extends from the lumbar vertebrae to the lesser trochanter of the femur; contracture causes flexion and lateral movement of the spine.

This muscle raises the hip towards the chest. It consists of two segments: the psoas major and psoas minor. The psoas major is responsible for hip flexion, while the psoas minor contributes to lowering the spine towards the pelvis.
