Syneresis

Expulsion of liquid from a gel, as contraction of a blood clot and expulsion of liquid.

The contraction of a gel when left standing.

The releasing of fluid as in a blood clot when it becomes harder.

Contraction of a blood clot. When first formed, a blood clot is a loose meshwork of fibers containing various blood cells. Over a period of time this contracts, producing a firm mass that seals the damaged blood vessels.

The contraction of a gel resulting in its separation from the liquid, as a shrinkage of fibrin when blood clots.

The shrinking of a blood clot.

In colloid chemistry, it refers to the process where the liquid component of gels seeps out.
