Griseofulvin

Generic name for commonly used oral antifungal drug.


An antifungal drug used to treat infections such as fungal infections of nails and hair follicles. Griseofulvin works by interfering with the fungal cell division and may inhibit DNA replication. Griseofulvin is available as tablets, capsules, and liquid.


An antibiotic administered by mouth to treat fungal infections of the hair, skin, and nails, such as ringworm. Mild and temporary side-effects such as headache, skin rashes, and digestive upsets may occur.


Griseofulvin is an antifungal medication taken orally. It is especially effective in treating infections that impact the scalp, beard, palms, soles of the feet, and nails. However, it may come with some common side effects like headache, dry mouth, abdominal pain, and increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight (photosensitivity). Prolonged use of this drug can potentially lead to damage to the liver or bone marrow.
