Compass

Pad, usually of cloth or gauze (sometimes hot, cold, or medicated), applied with pressure to an inflamed part or to a wound to help control bleeding or to keep parts from protruding through a wound.

The most elementary instrument employed for the detection of magnetism is a compact contrivance known as a compass. Comprised of a magnetic needle with a north-seeking property, it consistently aligns itself with the Earth’s magnetic field, directing towards the planet’s north pole. To ensure accurate orientation where the compass needle points towards the geographic north pole, it is fashioned from a material possessing a south magnetic characteristic.
