Cisternae, reservoir, especially for holding lymph or spinal fluid (e.g., cistema chyli, chyle cistern).
One of the enlarged spaces beneath the arachnoid that act as reservoirs for cerebrospinal fluid. The largest (cisterna magna) lies beneath the cerebellum and behind the medulla oblongata.
