Microangiopathy

(Or microvascular disease) is an angiopathy affecting small blood vessels in the body.

Development of lesions in small blood vessels.

Any disease of the capillaries.

Thickening of the capillary basement membrane.

A disease of the very small blood vessels.

Damage to the walls of the smallest blood vessels. It may result from a variety of diseases, including diabetes mellitus, collagen diseases, infections, and cancer. Common manifestations of microangiopathy are kidney failure, hemolysis (damage to red blood cells), and purpura (bleeding into the skin). The treatment is that of the underlying cause.

Any ailment or dysfunction affecting the tiniest blood vessels is termed microangiopathy. This condition can be observed in various medical situations, including diabetes mellitus, septicaemia, eclampsia, glomerulonephritis, and advanced cancer. In instances where microangiopathy coexists with these conditions, the small blood vessels undergo distortion, and the red blood cells sustain damage, resulting in a condition known as microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia.
