The ability to judge the relationship of objects to each other and oneself; closely linked to both MOTOR skills and visual skills. Children with learning disabilities or other developmental disorders may have difficulty in judging when they need to duck or crawl under a rope or table, for example, or may consistently try to put an object into too small a box. Children with spatial-relations problems often have trouble putting on clothes, going up and down stairs, fitting lids on boxes, putting keys in locks, riding a tricycle, or coordinating arm movements to throw a ball in the desired direction. Problems in such areas can lead to fear of heights, hesitation of movement, and difficulty in assessing the extent and direction of a movement needed to carry out a task.
