Granulation

The condition or appearance of being granulated (becoming grain-like).

New cell layers (in the form of small granular prominences) over capillaries and collagen in a wound.

The formation of rough red tissue on the surface of a wound or site of infection, the first stage in the healing process.

Growth of small projections of tiny blood vessels and connective tissue that form on the surfaces of a wound during the healing process; sometimes called granulation tissue.

The growth of small rounded outgrowths, made up of small blood vessels and connective tissue, on the healing surface of a wound (when the edges do not fit closely together) or an ulcer. Granulation is a normal stage in the healing process.

Small masses of formative cells containing loops of newly formed blood vessels which spring up over any raw surface, as the first step in the process of healing of wounds.

The formation of granules or the condition of being granular.

The small red particles seen at the bottom of an ulcer, or the development of granulation tissue at or near an inflamed area. This is the body’s way of healing an ulcer or wound that lacks skin.
