Ward

A room or set of rooms in a hospital, with beds for the patients.

A minor child (or sometimes a handicapped or incompetent adult) whose custody and care are legally in the hands of a guardian rather than a parent. A juvenile found to have committed delinquent acts is generally called a ward of the court.

A person for whom a guardian or conservator has been appointed by a court, to care for and make decisions concerning the ward’s person, property, or both. The ward is legally incompetent to act on his own behalf, usually because of immaturity or lack of mental capacity.

A large room in a hospital for the care of several patients.
